Himalayan Balsam leaves are arranged in threes. Each new set of leaves is positioned in-between the previous set. What do you think the advantage of this is to the plant?
The edges of the leaves are serrated(jagged). The edges of the leaves and the central vein may be reddish
The leaves are oval and fairly symmetrical
The stems are hollow and may be reddish with ridges running down their length.
The flowers of the Himalayan Balsam plant appear in July. They are white/pink, red /pink.
Later the characteristic seed pods develop
