Fieldwork

What you'll need

  • Walking shoes and rainwear
  • Notebook and pen
  • Measuring tape
  • Ordnance survey map of your area
  • A bag for equipment

What to do
1. Carefully survey the area you have decided to cover.

2. If you find a stand (area where the plant is growing) of Knotweed or Himalayan Balsam we would like you to do the following:


  • Measure the length and width of the stand
  • Make a sketch map showing cover and details of location such as nearest road, river or building.
  • Obtain a six-figure grid reference for the centre of the stand.
  • Write notes to describe what you see
